The Slip77 Story

Martha's Vineyard Secession Flag

Slip77 is a celebration of Martha's Vineyard's secession attempt of 1977. The island and its neighboring island, Nantucket, planned to secede from the Commonwealth when redistricting threatened their representation.

Our story, the story of Slip77, begins here. A brand born out of the desire to retell this little known piece of island history. An opportunity for all people to know, learn and celebrate its rebellious streak by wearing the clothing that represents this moment in island history.

Many of our designs feature the Martha's Vineyard secession flag, a seagull flying over the sun (originally designed by Fran Forman), as well as our own 9 dots logo, symbolizing morse code for the letters in our name.

We opened our doors in our flagship location in Oak Bluffs in 2012 and have told the history of the island's attempted secession to thousands of visitors since. We fly the Martha's Vineyard secession flag proudly and work tirelessly to develop new and original designs that honor what it represents to all.

We are a small, family owned island business, and are so excited to have you here!
